About

Melissa Williams

I care about the moment when a product stops feeling like software and starts feeling like it was made for a human being. That moment happens in the details: the right label on a confusing setting, the onboarding flow that actually explains what you just signed up for, the error message that gives you somewhere to go instead of just telling you something broke.

I've spent 12 years finding that moment across Growth PM, product marketing, and content design. The through-line isn't the job title. It's the problem: find where people are dropping off, understand why, and fix it in a way that holds.

How I got here

I started as a content strategist running my own practice, Brand Meets Copy, for eight years. I worked with SaaS startups, growth-stage companies, and enterprise clients through agencies. I did messaging, onboarding flows, go-to-market strategy, and a lot of the work that didn't have a clean title but needed doing.

Over time I noticed I kept gravitating toward the product side of the problem. I wanted to understand the data behind why users weren't converting, not just write better copy for the page. So I moved toward roles where I could own both: the strategic decision and the execution. That's what I've been doing since, at companies like Bishop Fox, Meta (Contract), Intuit (Contract), Rebellion Defense, Synder, and Okteto.

I hold 11+ certifications across PM, PMM, UX writing, and AI, including Pendo, Appcues, and Practical AI for Product Managers. I'm wrapping up a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health this summer, then starting a PhD in Social Psychology in Fall 2026. Less of a pivot than it sounds. Understanding how people make decisions and where they get stuck has always been the work.

Beyond the resume

I've shipped two iOS apps as a solo founder. knit still is a mindfulness app for knitters. Renewed Mind is a neuroscience-based resilience app grounded in psychology and behavior change. Both are live on the App Store. Building them end-to-end, from product decisions to onboarding to App Store launch, taught me things about shipping that you can't learn any other way.

I have a book coming out in 2027 under a traditional publishing contract. I'm a resilience coach. I also run productcharm.com, a consultancy that helps Series A/B companies in health, wellness, and wearables think about churn as a behavioral science problem.

Before focusing on tech full-time, I spent years running businesses independently across several different industries. That experience gives me an operational fluency that most PMs don't have. I've been the person figuring out everything at once.

None of this is a detour. Every version of this work was about understanding people well enough to help them.

What I'm looking for

A Growth PM or PMM role where the work is genuinely about retention, activation, or the full funnel, not just the top. A team that values people who can hold strategy and execution at the same time. Somewhere the content, the data, and the product decision are treated as connected, not handed off between departments.

I work best on teams that move with purpose, not just speed. I'm not looking for a title. I'm looking for a problem worth solving.
